Landed cost settings

Landed cost calculations will be most accurate when a product-specific country of origin (COO) and Harmonized System code (HS code) is provided for each of your products. Default landed cost settings are for times when one or both of those may be missing, allowing you to quote duties and taxes in your checkout without them. When the defaults are set up they will be used to generate a landed cost quote allowing your shoppers to be able to complete their orders with duties and taxes paid upfront.

Enter default information 

We recommend setting your default to the COO and HS code that is most commonly used when exporting goods.

1. Go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Landed cost settings.

2. Select your default COO. This is the country in which your products are manufactured.

3. Enter a default HS code. If you do not know your most common HS code, you can use Zonos Classify to get an HS code for your most commonly sold item. All Zonos customers that pay the Zonos Platform fee get 10,000 classifications a year.

4. Click Save.

How defaults are used 

The default COO or the default HS code is used when this information is not provided at the product level.

Most plugins for Zonos Landed Cost and Zonos Checkout will automatically pull the COO or HS code from your ecommerce platform. See which platforms can send product-specific HS codes and COO, and which do not. If you integrate the Checkout API or Landed Cost API, you can pass the values dynamically. If one or both is not passed in the API, your defaults will be used.

If HS codes and COOs are not assigned per-product in your ecommerce platform, you can use Zonos Catalog to upload product-specific HS codes and COOs to Dashboard. The information in Catalog will always be used if present. If not present, we will use what was passed from the ecommerce platform. If HS codes or COOs are not in Catalog or passed from the ecommerce platform, then we will use the defaults to produce a landed cost quote.

Shopify integrations: Shopify integrations on GraphQL will auto-classify items with no HS code to provide a classification during the checkout. When this integration is used, we will first look to Catalog for the HS code, then to the product listing in Shopify. If neither are present, we will auto-classify the item during the checkout. The default HS code will only be used if the auto-classification times out. Auto-classifications will carry through to the label, but they will not be added to your Catalog.
