Set up guide for GDPR
The GDPR (General Data Privacy Regulation) is a new set of privacy regulations enacted by the European Union. A big part of the GDPR’s requirements is giving users the ability to consent before their data is collected online. Read more about the GDPR here.
The Zonos Checkout is GDPR-ready and features a few different consent options which you can select from, depending on your business needs and legal advice.
We have given you options in selecting which boxes to use that allows alignment with your privacy plans. We recommend you consult with your legal representation over which option to choose.
Active consent choices - Consent to process the order and consent for marketing purposes.
Legitimate interest - There is no active consent box. Your customer knows that by providing the information to your site, both they and you have a legitimate interest in the order being processed.
Where do I choose my store’s consent level?
You can modify your store’s consent level by logging into Zonos and navigating to your checkout settings. The GDPR settings are under the “General” section.
Marketing consent only
This option will present only a checkbox allowing users to consent to marketing. When using this option, collecting the data required for order processing is considered legitimate interest. Hint: do not use this if not engaged in a marketing effort.
Marketing + processing consent
This option will show two separate checkboxes - one for marketing and another for order processing.
Processing consent only
This option will present only a checkbox allowing users to consent to order processing. Hint: do not use this if not engaged in a marketing effort.
Combined processing and marketing consent
This option will present a single checkbox with language allowing users to consent to both marketing and order processing at the same time.
No consent box
Use this option only after seeking legal counsel around legitimate interest. Many of the top retailers are choosing this option.
